Quick Start

Your first minutes with Synscape. Add a pattern, keep it in key, shape the motion, and take the music with you.

1. Add a pattern

Open the Add Pattern panel on the left and choose a starting shape — Polygon is the easiest place to begin. A pattern appears on the canvas and starts moving. Every crossing, collision and orbit becomes a musical event.

2. Press play

Use the Global panel to start playback and set the tempo. Press Space to start and stop at any time. Adjust BPM to change how quickly the motion — and the music — unfolds.

3. Stay in key

In the pattern parameters, choose a root note, a scale and a note set. Everything the pattern plays is mapped into that selection, so the result sounds intentional even before you touch anything else.

4. Shape the motion

Small changes to movement produce large musical changes. Try, in order:

  • Change the number of sides or the size of the shape.
  • Change the speed or direction of travel.
  • Adjust velocity, probability and note length until the phrasing feels right.

5. Layer a second pattern

Add a Pendulum or an Orbit on its own channel and give it a different instrument. Patterns run independently, so two simple systems quickly become a piece of music. You can layer up to twelve.

6. Keep what you find

Record the audio of your performance, or export MIDI and continue in your DAW. Synscape does not compose for you — it helps you find ideas you can develop anywhere.
